Sustainable Household Scheme
The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme offers low-interest loans at a fixed 3% rate (no fees) up to $20,000 (from 1 July 2026) for batteries, heat pumps, EVs, EV chargers and energy efficiency upgrades — rooftop solar is no longer eligible under this scheme. Zero-interest loans (including solar) are available to concession-card holders via the separate Home Energy Support Program. The Next Gen Energy Storage rebate closed in 2023 after reaching its 5,000-battery target — battery support now comes via the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (~30% off) plus the SHS 3% loan. Current as at July 2026.

In the ACT, your home connects to the grid through Evoenergy, the territory distributor, and rooftop solar is metered so your panels power your appliances first and only surplus energy is exported. Before the system can switch on you generally need a bi-directional meter in place, which your electricity retailer arranges, so we factor the Evoenergy connection and metering steps into every Canberra quote. It is also worth knowing the ACT does not set a mandated minimum feed-in tariff, so export rates are chosen by each retailer and can vary, and it pays to compare offers. Because export income is not guaranteed, it is usually sensible to size a system around self-consumption and consider a battery rather than relying on selling power back to the grid.
On incentives, the territory-run Sustainable Household Scheme offers low-interest loans that eligible households can put toward solar and batteries, and eligible concession card holders may also access rebates and interest-free loan support through the ACT Home Energy Support Program. Terms, eligibility and loan limits are set by the ACT Government and change over time, so we confirm the current details with you at quote. Canberra also brings cold, frosty winters and warm to hot summers, which lifts winter heating and summer cooling loads.
