The right-size pledge
Oversizing is the most common — and most profitable — mistake in air conditioning. An oversized unit short-cycles: it blasts cold, hits temperature, switches off, then restarts minutes later — handling humidity poorly, so the room feels clammy. Our free in-home load calculation measures your actual room — ceiling height, insulation, glazing, orientation, external walls — and if the honest answer is a 2.5kW head where another quote pushed 5kW, that's exactly what we'll quote. We'd rather size it right than sell you more metal.

Air conditioning isn't always the answer. If the real problem is a west-facing room that bakes at 4pm, external shading, ceiling fans or window film can sometimes take the edge off for a fraction of the cost — and occasionally that's the smarter first move. During your free assessment we'll say so if we see it. If a smaller unit, one room instead of three, or a cheaper fix serves you better, that's the advice you'll get.
Ducted vs split: the honest call
Split wins on cost, speed, and running only the rooms you're in. Ducted wins on an invisible, even, whole-home feel — but if you heat and cool empty rooms it can cost more to run. Here's the part most won't say: if you spend nearly all your time in two rooms, a couple of well-placed splits may keep you more comfortable for less than ducting the whole house. We'll tell you which is genuinely right for how you live.

The rebate exists because the unit uses less. Victorian Energy Upgrades doesn't pay you to buy an air conditioner — it pays because a high-efficiency reverse-cycle system replacing older or inefficient heating is calculated to cut energy use, and the discount scales with how much more efficient the new system is. So the discount at checkout and the lower running cost afterwards come from the same efficiency.
You may be eligible for a point-of-sale discount under the program — up to $800 is available for eligible energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, and the amount depends on your property, the system's efficiency rating and current program rules. The program is administered by the Victorian Government under the Essential Services Commission and applies to accredited installations of high-efficiency reverse-cycle air conditioners. We check current rules for your address and confirm your eligibility before you commit.

The same unit runs efficiently or badly depending on how it's fitted — kinked or undersized refrigerant pipe runs, a leaky duct in the roof, an outdoor unit baking against a hot west wall, or a system never properly vacuumed and gas-charged to spec all quietly drag efficiency down for the life of the machine. This is where SAA-accredited, install-only specialists earn their keep: we get the boring details right — correct pipe runs, sealed ducts, the outdoor unit out of the afternoon sun, and proper commissioning.
Two star ratings, three climate zones
Since 2020, every reverse-cycle unit carries a Zoned Energy Rating Label with separate cooling and heating stars for hot, average and cold zones. A unit that shines in the "average" zone can quietly underperform on a frosty morning — so for Melbourne we read the cold-zone heating stars, the ones that actually apply to your winter, not the flattering number on the box. A higher rating is the clearest guide to lifetime running cost. We put the specific make, model and star rating on your quote, in writing — check it yourself.

A manufacturer's warranty on the unit means little if the business that installed it has vanished when something goes wrong. Across Australia's solar market alone there are an estimated ~600,000 orphaned systems — roughly 1 in 6–7 solar homes — where the original installer stopped trading, so the labour warranty and the person who answers the phone are simply gone. Our 10-year warranty covers parts and labour, and it's backed by Mission Green — a trading Australian company (ABN 17 659 134 577, 367 Collins Street, Melbourne) with one number to call in year eight. And your rights under the Australian Consumer Law can't be signed away.

Where the indoor head goes decides whether you love the room or spend summer dodging a cold jet down your neck. Aim it at a wall and it short-cycles the sensor; aim it across the room and the air mixes evenly. That call gets made on the in-home visit — a big reason we don't quote a comfort system sight-unseen. And because we focus on installs rather than chasing service callouts, the comfort-critical calls — capacity, head placement, zoning, duct runs — get made up front, when they're cheapest to get right.
