How long does a battery last?
Quality home batteries are designed to last 10 to 15 years or more, and premium units such as the BYD range (LFP cells built for 6,000-plus cycles) and the Tesla Powerwall commonly deliver 15 or more years of daily cycling. Every battery Mission Green installs carries at least a 10-year manufacturer warranty, which typically guarantees a minimum retained capacity — often around 70% — at the end of the warranty term. Most modern home batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, valued for its long cycle life, thermal stability and safety, and it usually outlasts the warranty period in normal household use. Real-world lifespan depends on how often the battery is cycled, ambient temperature and how it is installed. What happens during a blackout?
If your system includes a battery with backup capability, your home essential circuits keep running automatically when the grid goes down. The changeover is near-instant — typically under 20 milliseconds — so lights, the fridge, internet and other nominated circuits stay on without you doing anything. It is important to know that a standard grid-connected solar system without a battery will switch off during a blackout for safety reasons, so panels alone do not provide backup power. How much you can run, and for how long, depends on your battery capacity and how much charge it holds when the outage begins. During daylight your solar can also recharge the battery, extending backup through a prolonged outage. What is a VPP?
A Virtual Power Plant, or VPP, links thousands of home batteries together so they can be coordinated to support the electricity grid. During periods of high demand, your battery discharges a small, pre-agreed amount of stored energy, and you are paid credits or a set rate in return. Participation is automated and managed by the VPP operator, so it runs passively in the background, and you can usually set limits so a reserve is always kept for your own home. VPPs are a growing part of Australia shift to distributed energy and can improve a battery payback by adding an income stream on top of your bill savings. Programs, rates and eligibility vary by provider and state, and some have conditions worth checking. Can I add a battery to existing solar?

How long does installation take?
Most residential solar installations are completed in a single day. Adding a battery typically extends this to one or two days, depending on the electrical work and any switchboard changes involved. Commercial installations are scheduled around system size and site complexity and usually take two to five days, sometimes longer for large rooftop or ground-mount projects. The physical install is only part of the timeline — before it there is a design and quoting stage and a grid-connection pre-approval, and afterwards an inspection and meter reconfiguration by your network before the system can export. From first contact to a fully switched-on system, most Australian households should allow a few weeks, much of which is network and paperwork lead time rather than on-site work. For many households, the monthly finance repayment on a solar or solar-plus-battery system is less than what they were previously paying on electricity bills, so the system can be effectively cash-flow positive from day one. Eligible Victorian customers can also stack the Solar Victoria interest-free loan on top of the state rebate. Finance approval is subject to the lender criteria, and the right structure depends on your budget and how quickly you want to own the system outright. Second, Mission Green own workmanship warranty, covering the quality of the installation itself, including mounting, wiring and system performance. This matters because in Australia the retailer who sells and installs your system carries obligations under the Clean Energy Council approved-seller framework and Australian Consumer Law, so you have a clear point of contact if anything needs attention.
