On incentives, NSW does not run a Victorian-style upfront state solar rebate. Instead, panel systems draw on federal small-scale technology certificates (STCs), which apply as a point-of-sale discount and are set to phase down to 2030. Home batteries can pair the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount with the NSW virtual power plant incentive under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, paid when your battery is installed and connected to an approved VPP. Eligibility and amounts change, so we confirm what applies at quote. Retailer feed-in tariffs are guided by an annual IPART benchmark range rather than fixed by law, and those benchmarks have fallen in recent years. That shift is why many households now size a battery to shift daytime solar into peak evening use.
