What Tasmanian homeowners should know about the local network, incentives and sizing before going solar.
Tasmania runs on a single statewide network owned and operated by TasNetworks, and most homes buy their power from Aurora Energy. When your panels export surplus energy you are paid a feed-in tariff, and each year the independent Tasmanian Economic Regulator sets a regulated minimum rate that retailers must at least match. Because the export credit is usually modest, the bigger saving often comes from using your own generation on site rather than sending it back to the grid, which is where a well-sized battery can help. We size every system around your actual usage and confirm the current feed-in and network export rules for your address at quote.
On incentives, the main lever in Tasmania as at 2026, confirmed at quote, is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which reduces the cost of an eligible battery installed through an accredited installer. Note the former state Energy Saver Loan Scheme closed to new applications on 1 September 2025, so it is no longer available. Tasmania has a cooler climate, and heating is a large share of the yearly bill, so pairing solar and battery with an efficient heat pump often makes more sense here than in warmer states.
