What we know about Green ESS — and what we don’t.
If you have been quoted a Green ESS battery, your next move is to search the brand and see what comes back. As at August 2026 the honest answer is: not much. So here is what we checked, what it showed, and what is still open.
The Australian company was registered in 2023
Green ESS Pty Ltd is an Australian private company, active from 3 May 2023 and GST-registered from the same date. Some marketing material refers to a 2008 founding date — that belongs to an overseas parent which is not named publicly. We quote the ABN rather than the marketing line because you can verify it yourself on ABN Lookup in about thirty seconds.
The cells are on the CEC register — and we quote usable, not nominal
The MINT7240 module appears on the Clean Energy Regulator’s approved battery register: 2.9 kWh nominal, 2.75 kWh usable, approved 9 December 2024. The federal rebate is calculated on usable capacity, so that is the number we quote and the number your rebate is worked out on. A 10-module system is 27.5 kWh usable, not the 28.70 headline figure.
There is no local track record to point you at
As at August 2026 there are no independent Australian reviews of this brand — nothing on SolarQuotes, Solar Choice, ProductReview or the Whirlpool forums. That is a genuine unknown and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is the single strongest argument for waiting, and you should weigh it against the price.
What we have asked the manufacturer, and not yet had back
Full datasheet figures (round-trip efficiency, depth of discharge, capacity retention at ten years), the warranty document itself and the entity standing behind it, and written confirmation of the battery-and-inverter pairing. We will publish the answers on this page as they arrive, including the ones we do not like.

Since 1 May 2026 the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate is tiered on usable capacity. It changes what size makes sense, and most quotes have not caught up. Values below are indicative and move with the STC price.

The part no other home battery in Australia offers. A portable G4 module sits in its own bay — separate from the fixed storage stack — and clicks into matching equipment. Because it is a separate bay, taking one out does not reduce the installed capacity your rebate was calculated on. Sold separately; each add-on ships with its own module.

Why is it cheaper?
A whole-home battery at roughly a third of typical market rate invites suspicion, and it should. Here are the three reasons, and the one you have probably already seen advertised.
The middle tier does a lot of the work
Capacity between 14 and 28 kWh usable is still 60% rebated, and the modules that take you there cost far less than the first ones did. Most of the jump from a small system to a large one is rebate-funded rather than paid for.
Fewer hands between the factory and your wall
Established brands carry a local distributor and a dealer network, each taking margin. Green ESS currently sells through a short channel. That is a genuine cost difference — and also why the local support network is unproven.
A new brand pays to get installed
A brand with no Australian track record cannot charge an established price, so it discounts to get units on walls and reviews on the board. That is a real and rational reason for the price. It is also a strategy, and strategies change.
You may have seen the manufacturer advertise a lower number
You may see a lower entry price advertised elsewhere, including by the manufacturer. Those figures are typically for the smallest configuration and do not represent a fully installed, network-approved system at the size most homes actually need. Bring us any advertised price and we will put the two side by side on your quote — we would rather explain the difference up front than have you find it later.
